Karen

I’ve been asked several times what I thought of the “Karen” memes that have been going around as my name is Karen. I’ve mostly ignored this bit of nastiness but I just read a Yahoo article that tells “Karens” that they need to change their hairstyle. It’s hard to ignore how this just becomes more criticism of women’s looks, worth, and voice. I certainly don’t condone mean, “I’m telling Mommy” behavior but the female perpetrators are Amys, and Jennifers, and Kathys…say THEIR names! Talk about their behavior instead for stereotyping yet another group for blanket derision.

To sum it up I find these memes, and more importantly this attitude, sexist with a giant dollop of social media misogyny and if this is an example of “woke” retribution, I’m going back to bed and I suggest people who use these memes take a long nap and get re-woke.

My favorite meme is the one that says:

20 things that women should stop wearing after the age of 30:

1-20: The weight of other people’s expectations and judgments.
